“Wherever the art of Medicine is loved, there is also a love of Humanity”– Hippocrates
My name is LaShawn Campbell and I am a currently a Pre-med student in year one of my Post- Bacc program. I am currently working towards my Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology. This blog was created to document my detailed journey through Pre- medicine , Gap years, Post-Bacc and my final stop, Medical School.
I spent my early childhood and younger years in Brooklyn, New York, one of the best places on Earth. After graduating with my Bachelor’s degree I relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where I began to dig my roots deeper into the Healthcare industry.
My love for Medicine was practically inevitable. I grew up around it. With both of my parents being health care providers , science projects for me were fascinating. I remember so vividly sitting on the living room floor at home skimming through the pages of The American Medical Association Home Medical Encyclopedias. This was way before home internet and computers were in people’s households. Nostalgia.
I remember my fascination with Asthma following my sister’s diagnosis and my obsession with Cancer considering that it was taking a toll on my mother’s side of the family. This was around the age of 7 and my mind was already made up:
“When I grow up, I want to be a Doctor”. The rest will be history and I am glad to have you all along on this journey.
Overall, I am just a young women with a dream of bringing change to Medicine. A dream that deepened with the unexpected passing of my mother at a very young age. Life is full of lessons, blessings, mishaps, and even pain, but at the end of it all…. Life is what you make it.
